Ali Nuhu, the popular Kannywood and Nollywood filmmaker, has made a revelation about northern families.
He said a lot of families in Northern Nigeria have at least one or two members who are into drug abuse.
The actor said studying Transmedia Storytelling at the University of Southern California changed his mindset completely on filmmaking.
He said the experience inspired him to make movies that address social vices such as drug abuse.
In a recent interview with the Guardian, Nuhu said, “When I got back, I had to do a film on drug abuse but I concentrated on the rehabilitation aspect of it because I noticed that in Northern Nigeria, a lot of families have one or two people that are involved in the vice.”
He said he made the movie because of his realization that most people don’t know that victims of drug abuse can be taken to rehabilitation.
He said he also shot a movie on the violent extremism in the region, on how the youth are being radicalized and recruited into vices, which was an eye-opener.
Taking a trip down memory lane, the Borno-born actor recalled the obstacles he encountered when he decided to join the movie industry.
He said initially his family was against the decision because some believe acting is a profession for school dropouts or people who have no future.
Nuhu added that his determination made him who he is today.
