Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), in separate petitions, asked the tribunal to void Tinubu’s emergence as President-elect.

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC PCC) has broken its silence after two presidential candidates filed a petition seeking to nullify the declaration of its candidate, Bola Tinubu, as the winner of the February 25 presidential poll.

Recall that Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), had in separate petitions, asked the tribunal to void Tinubu’s emergence as President-elect.

In his petition, Atiku said the declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election was invalid by reason of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

He further argued that Tinubu’s election was invalid by reason of corrupt practices and called for the withdrawal of the Certificate of Return that was issued to Tinubu by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

While in his petition, Obi and his party maintained that Tinubu was not duly elected by a majority of the lawful votes cast at the time of the election, alleging that there was rigging in 11 states.

He also urged the tribunal to determine that, at the time of the presidential election, Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, were not qualified to contest the election.

But in a chat with The Punch on Tuesday night, the Chief Spokesman for the APC presidential campaign council, Festus Keyamo, said the council would not officially respond to the petitions filed by Atiku and Obi.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment said since the case is officially in court, Tinubu would prove that his victory is legitimate and deserving.

He said: “The APC PCC has no reaction to the petition. Now that the case is officially in court, at my level in the profession and for those of us who know what it means to obey the rule of law, the argument now officially shifts to court.”
