As early as 4 am, bank users in need of cash trooped to various commercial banks in their numbers with the hope to make withdrawals.
They were, however, disappointed as none of the commercial banks in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, were open for business.
By 10 am when DAILY POST correspondent visited Panseke, Omida, Oke-Ilewo, Sapon and other places in Abeokuta, the banks were all locked up.
It was observed that Automated Teller Machines (ATMs were also not loaded for cash withdrawal.
Bank customers, hoping that the bankers would still arrive to open for business or load the ATMs, were seen sitting and standing in front of bank premises.
Some of the customers, who said they did not have any cash to transport themselves back home, lamented the hardship caused by the naira crisis.
Security guards, who spoke to DAILY POST correspondent could not explain why the banks are not working today.
DAILY POST, however, learnt that the bankers’ forum in Ogun was fearful of violent attacks on their offices and staff and decided to tread on the path of caution.
