A statement by Atiku’s Special Assistant on Public Communications, Phrank Shaibu called on the DSS to carry out a thorough probe.
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has reacted after the Department of State Services, DSS invited Femi Fani-Kayode, for questioning over allegation of coup.
Fani-Kayode who is the Special Projects and New Media Director of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, is expected to substantiate his comment about Atiku and the military.
Fani-Kayode had alleged they had a secret meeting recently, mentioning a possible coup plot ahead of the general elections.
The Defence Headquarters condemned the claim.
A statement by Atiku’s Special Assistant on Public Communications, Phrank Shaibu called on the DSS to carry out a thorough probe.
Shaibu noted that Atiku, even during the military regime, “never attempted to topple the government despite having the resources”.
“Fani-Kayode must also be made to reveal the identities of the so-called army generals who are plotting to overthrow the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
The aide urged the secret service and Nigerian authorities to ensure that the military is not brought into partisan politics.
“Fani-Kayode and others in Tinubu’s camp have continued to prod the military by making allegations of coups and an interim government.”
Shaibu stated that the former Minister of Aviation cannot be acting alone in the claim since he is the spokesman for Tinubu.
He asked the DSS to also ask Fani-Kayode to explain his ties to Yoruba nation agitators, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and other separatist organisations threatening Nigeria’s unity.
The statement further referred to videos of FFK pushing “separatist agitators to tear the country apart and instigating a tribal war in Nigeria”.
“The DSS must thus leave no stone unturned in this investigation. It is obvious that Fani-Kayode is the one plotting the collapse of the 4th Republic,” it added.
