Old Note Swap: We Were Starving Before CBN Intervention - Nigerians In Rural Areas Speak

The Apex bank in collaboration with commercial banks has deployed its agents to rural communities to swap old notes for residents free of charge.

 

Some Nigerians who are living in rural communities have talked about their access to the new naira notes.

They said they were under starvation before the intervention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In an interview with our reporter, some of the residents narrated their ordeals before the swap exercise.

Malam Muhammadu Bodinga in the Bodinga local government area of the state said life was very difficult for them before the intervention.

“Our businessmen had stopped collecting old notes, some even locked their shops.

To buy something to eat was a problem. We were living under starvation. We thank the Central bank of Nigeria because of this intervention. It brings succor to us,” he said

The district head of Wamakko, Alhaji Aliyu Baraden Wamakko also commended the Apex bank for identifying with the masses at this critical time.

“The Intervention came at the right time. It came at the time our people are in dire need of help,” he said.

At Yabo town in Yabo local government area, armed policemen had to be used to maintain orderliness during the exercise because of the upsurge of locals at the point.

The agents have also visited some communities In Shagari, Kware, Gwadabawa, and Tambuwal local government areas.
