Soldier Kills Colleague, Aid Worker In Borno State

A soldier has killed his colleague and an aide worker on Thursday.
 
The incident happened at a military base in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, according to Punch.
 
It was gathered that the soldier shot and killed an aid worker from a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) providing humanitarian support in the North East.
 
It was also gathered that the same soldier killed another soldier and injured the co-pilot of one of the United Nations (UN) helicopters before he was gunned down.
 
The injured co-pilot was said to have been stabilized while the corpses of the deceased have been moved to the 7 Division Hospital.
 
Confirming the incident in a statement on Thursday, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Samson Zhakom, said the soldier was neutralised by the ground troops.
 
Zhakom disclosed that an investigation has commenced into the regrettable and sad incident.
 
The statement reads: “The theatre command Operation Hadin Kai regrets to inform the general public of a sad occurrence at one of our military bases today. A soldier shot and killed a staff of one of the NGOs providing humanitarian support in the North East.
 
“Same soldier also killed another soldier and injured the co-pilot of one of the UN helicopters. Own troops on the ground immediately neutralized the errant personnel.
 
“The injured co-pilot has been stabilized while the corpses of the deceased have been moved to the 7 Division Hospital. Detailed investigation into the incident and subsequent remedial actions have commenced into the highly regrettable incident.”
 
The development comes a day after a Brigadier-General in the Nigerian Army, Audu James, was killed in a car crash in Lagos State.
 
James was said to have been knocked down by a soldier who was drunk. He was also said to have died from injuries sustained after the tragic incident.
 
The victim was the Monitor-General of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 40 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS), Kuru, Plateau State.
