When the trial resumes on Thursday, Ojukwu will tell the court whether she gave the police her statement under duress or not.

Chidinma Ojukwu, the prime suspect fingered in the gruesome murder of Super TV CEO Usifo Ataga, will take her first defence on Thursday, November 10 since the trial began.

This is coming as Justice Yetunde Adesanya had ordered trial within trial to determine if the police collected statements from Ms Ojukwu under duress.

When the case came up in court on Tuesday, DSP Olusegun Bamidele tendered different statements which Ojukwu allegedly gave them.

But Ojukwu’s lawyer Onwuka Egwu rejected the statements, saying his client did not give the statements voluntarily but under intimidation.

Describing how the police collected the statements, Bamidele said the room was very conducive, air conditioned and serene.

In one of the statements, Ojukwu admitted killing Ataga without any help.

The Lagos High Court on October 11, 2022, watched a video recording of Ojukwu confessing to stabbing Ataga because he was bothering her “for more s3x.”

In another video recording played in the court one week later, Ojukwu backtracked on her previous ‘confession’ of stabbing Ataga in the neck, ribs and stomach.

“I did not say that I didn’t know him, I said I did not kill him, I cannot kill somebody,”
she said.

When the trial resumes on Thursday, Ojukwu will tell the court whether she gave the police her statement under duress or not.
