The two victims, Mr. Odum Ikechukwu, Ubah's Regional Manager and his Personal Assistant, Goodnews Mathias, were buried on Saturday in Mbaukwu, Awka South, Anambra State and Ika, Akwa Ibom State respectively.
Two personal aides of Nigerian lawmaker, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who were brutally killed recently, have been buried.
The aides who were killed during an assassination attempt on Ubah three weeks ago have been laid to rest.
The two victims, Mr. Odum Ikechukwu, Ubah's Regional Manager and his Personal Assistant, Goodnews Mathias, were buried on Saturday in Mbaukwu, Awka South, Anambra State and Ika, Akwa Ibom State respectively.
SaharaReporters had reported that Ubah's convoy was attacked around Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu Market area of Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State on his way to Nnewi, his country home on Sunday, September 11.
The gunmen believed to be an assassins had opened fire on the convoy and left many members of the convoy dead including other persons at the scene of the incident.
The oil magnet who drove in a bullet proof vehicle had miraculously escaped the onslaught, but his two aides were not that lucky.
On Friday, the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial district at the National Assembly, visited Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka to inspect the bodies of the former aide in preparation for the Saturday’s burial.
Ubah who could not hold back tears beheld the bodies of former aides and announced their burial would be held on Saturday (today) after inspecting their bodies at the hospital.
In a media release, Ubah said, “My late Regional Manager; Mr. Odum Ikechukwu and Personal Assistant; Goodnews Mathias burials are scheduled to hold being Saturday October 8, 2022 in Mbaukwu – Awka South, Anambra State and Ika, Akwa Ibom State respectively.
“Today, I visited the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku to pay final respect to my late Personal Assistant; Mr. Goodnews Mathias whose body was set to depart for Akwa Ibom State where he will be buried.”
Ubah extolled the uprightness of both men while serving him, praying God their souls peaceful repose.
He said “Until his untimely demise, my late Personal Aide; Goodnews was a bundle of joy and encouragement to all around him. A kind soul, strong and resilient character who discharged his daily duties with utmost care and devotion; the thoughts of his departure to eternity are a reality that is too difficult for me to embrace.
“While appreciating you all for your love and solidarity in this moment of grief, I want to humbly urge you all to keep us in your prayers as we prepare to bury and commit my late aides to mother earth tomorrow (today).
“On behalf of my family, friends and the good people of Anambra South, I thank you all for your prayers, well wishes and encouragement. May God grant us all the peace and strength to cope with this irreplaceable loss, and may the soul of the departed rest in perfect peace.”
