The government of Sokoto has banned the placement of campaign posters in public places ahead of the 2023 elections.

The announcement was made on Thursday August 25 by Sidi Aliyu Lamido, the Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, during a meeting with political parties in the state.

Lamido who also oversees the Urban and Regional Development Agency in the state, decried the placement of campaign posters on roundabouts, mosques, and church fences, which he described as illegal.

The Governor's aide who told politicians to desist from the act or face the full wrath of the law added that there is a procedure for placement of posters in the state.

He Said;

“We cannot allow this illegal activities to continue because apart from violating our law, it also violates the electoral law because it is not yet time for electioneering.”
