He noted that the Nigerian government gained Adamawa State and lost Southern Cameroon through referendum and nobody was detained, killed or extraordinarily renditioned.
It has been revealed that Atiku Abukakar would have come from a different country if not for referendum.
The Special Counsel to the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor made the revelation on Twitter.
According to Ejimakor, agitation for self-determination is legitimate.
Ejimakor said the directive of the United Nations calling for the release of Kanu shows their agitation is recognised.
Ejimafor further stated that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, would not have been a Nigerian citizen if not for a referendum.
He noted that the Nigerian government gained Adamawa State and lost Southern Cameroon through referendum and nobody was detained, killed or extraordinarily renditioned.
Ejimakor pointed to other nations that were created through a referendum.
Kanu’s lawyer wondered why the Nigerian government is reluctant to conduct a referendum for Biafra.
Ejimafor urged that Federal Government stop suppressing the agitation for Biafra by using the military force on the agitators, but organise a referendum and allow the people to decide whether or not they would like to be autonomous.
The lawyer, in a post on his Twitter account, wrote, “The UN directives on #MNK affirmed that separatist agitation is legal & that referendum is a legitimate tool for settling it.
“Nigeria gained Adamawa and lost Southern Cameroon through referendum and nobody was detained, killed or extraordinarily renditioned.
“It’s a referendum that made Atiku a Nigerian. And it was through the Referendum that Midwest Region came into being in 1964.
“This is all within Nigeria, not counting nations created by referendum – Eritrea, Kosovo, South Sudan, etc.
“The problem is not the separatist agitation. The problem is the militarist response to it. That’s is exactly what is convulsing South-East and Nigeria by extension.”
