A 22-year-old man posing as a military personnel to threaten and extort money from members of the public was apprehended by men of the Adamawa State Police Command attached to Girei Divisional police headquarters on July 17 while on intensive surveillance patrol.
When interrogated, the suspect who gave his name as Paul Shaltha, a resident of Sabon gari ward Girei local government area, confessed to having paraded himself as a military man sometimes last month, threatened and extorted one Michael Stephen a Keke Napep operator for alleged traffic rule violation.
The commissioner of police CP SK Akande who talked tough on the impersonators; however, directed State Criminal investigation Department (SCID), CP's Monitoring unit , Public Complain Bureau (PCB) to go after people of such questionable characters and checkmate the criminal activities been master minded by these hooligans
The police boss has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police ( CID) to immediately take over the investigation and ensure the prosecution of the suspect to serve as a deterrent to others from doing likewise.
