Court Dismisses Makinde’s Deputy’s Suit To Stop Impeachment

A lawsuit filed against the Oyo state Assembly by the deputy governor, Rauf Olaniyan over plans to impeach him has been dismissed by a high court.

Justice Ladiran Akintola ruled on Thursday that the lawmakers have not erred in the procedures taken.

According to the court, the originating summons filed by the claimant was purely legislative procedure and not judicial in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Akintola while delivering his judgment on Thursday, insisted that the House of Assembly has not breached the provisions of the constitution on the removal of a governor or deputy governor.

According to Akintola, the lawmakers substantially complied with the provisions of Section 188 of the Constitution on the removal process.

The court said the lawmakers should continue with the removal process.
