Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state has debunked viral reports quoting him as saying the gunmen that attacked the St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, were from Mali and trained in Libya.

Akeredolu urged the people of the State to disregard the fake news entirely.

Akeredolu, who spoke in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Olabode Olatunde, said he told the people of Owo to resist the urge to retaliate and not to attack non-indigenes resident in the town.

He said he mentioned that those who live in Owo among the people were not responsible for the terror attack.

According to him: “The charge became necessary in light of disturbing reports of impending retaliatory attacks on non-indigenes in Owo, who were believed to share the same ethnic background with the suspected assailants.

“This is a trying time for us in Ondo State. It is a tragic moment and the mood of the state is melancholic. We urge the media, to report accurate and factual information so as not to mislead the general public. This is not the time for undue sensationalism.”
