A video that is currently making the rounds on social media, showed the minor with an injury on her back, alleging that her aunt’s husband beat her up for bedwetting.
A man called Nweke Chadikaobi has been arrested by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.
The man was nabbed over a cruel and ill-treatment perpetrated against one Oluebibe Emmanuel, a 10-year-old minor at Range View Estate, Dawaki area of the territory.
A video obtained by TORI NEWS, which is currently making the rounds on social media, showed the minor with an injury on her back, alleging that her aunt’s husband beat her up for bedwetting.
Frowning at such levels of inhumane treatment, a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh said the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Babaji Sunday ordered an immediate investigation, arrest of the suspect, and the recovery of the minor for medical attention and other forms of intervention needed in the protection of her human right and dignity.
She said the suspect who was arrested on Tuesday, upon interrogation admitted to the commission of the crime, stating that the minor bed wets and committed other offences.
The PPRO revealed in the statement that the victim has been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of child trafficking in person (NAPTIP) for special care and retraumatization.
She said an investigation into the matter continues, stressing that subsequent developments would be communicated to the general public duly.
“The Commissioner of Police while urging the good people of the Territory not to keep mute about such occurrences in their neighbourhoods, taking no exceptions or restraint in reporting same to the Police, said a happy child leads to a happy people and by the effect, a happy nation void of crime and criminality”, the statement added.
