Melaye was defeated at the primaries by a three terms House of Representative member, Hon. Tajudeen Yusuf represents Kabba/Bunu Ijumu Federal constituency.

The real reason Dino Melaye lost his bid to return to the Senate under the Peoples Democratic Paty (PDP) has been revealed.

The convener of the Concerned Nigerian movement, Deji Adeyanju revealed the reason why Melaye lost on his Twitter page.

Melaye was defeated at the primaries by a three terms House of Representative member, Hon. Tajudeen Yusuf represents Kabba/Bunu Ijumu Federal constituency.

While Melaye polled a final vote of 99, Yusuf got 163 votes from the delegates to clinch the PDP ticket for the Kogi West Senatorial Constituency.

Adeyanju in his reaction to the development claimed that Melaye was defeated in the primary due to his differences with Hon. Sam Aro who also contested in the race.

The activist noted that Aro could have directed his delegates to vote for Dino but their differences made him support Yusuf who eventually emerged the winner.

Adeyanju in a post on his Twitter account wrote, “To fully understand why Dino lost the Kogi West Senatorial election, it is important to point out that 3 people were in the race initially and they scored:

-Dino -88
-TJ -88
-Hon Aro -77

“Both Dino & Aro are Atiku folks but they refused to step down for each other.

“Dino and Aro have always had scores to settle and Aro most likely has his delegates to TJ for the Re-Run.”
