FCTA Closes Jikwoyi Junction To Reduce Gridlock
The Jikwoyi Phase II junction has been closed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Ministerial Taskforce on City Sanitation.
The area constitutes a major gridlock on the busy road every day.
Ikharo Attah, Head of FCTA Taskforce, spoke to the media on Tuesday after the closure.
The authority had two weeks ago inspected the Karu-Jikwoyi road with some stakeholders.
Their visit followed the Minister’s directive to reduce the traffic from Nyanya, Karu, Jikwoyi – Kpegyi linking Karshu.
Attah said shutting down the junction and the planned demolition of illegal structures would ensure quick movement of vehicles and the residents.
“Sealing of the Jikwoyi Phase II is one of the measures that we have taken to ease the free flow of traffic on the axis.”
The official added that all stakeholders endorsed the FCT administration’s stance on the measure.
All vehicles that ply the road would now go through the Celestial Church junction to make a U-turn.
