President Muhammadu Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to microblogging site, Twitter 11 months after he stopped tweeting following the ban on the platform.
The Buhari administration banned Twitter after the platform deleted tweets by the president, threatening to treat members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the "language they understand".
The ban was announced on June 4, 2021 and was lifted on January, 13, 2022, after 7 months.
Following the ban, the President stopped addressing citizens via Twitter.
Even when the ban was lifted and many politicians and their aides returned to the platform, Buhari didn't return until Monday, May 2.
In his first tweet in 11 months, Buhari sent his best wishes to Muslims celebrating Eid-el-Fitr while addressing the problem of insecurity in the country.
Before tweeting today, his last tweet was on June 1, 2021.
