A man identified as Seun Sowemimo has bagged a 12months jail term by an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Friday for attempting to steal from ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He was sentenced without the option of a fine.
The 33-year-old man whose address was not revealed pleaded guilty to the two-count charge which includes, theft and causing a breach of peace in the area.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olajumoke Somefun, who delivered the judgment, stated that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the convict is guilty as charged.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Olakunle Shonibare told the court that Sowemimo scaled the fence into the compound of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta on April 1 with the intent to steal.
According to him, immediately Sowemimo jumped in, he was caught by one of the security guards on duty.
He said the offence contravened the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006. (NAN)
