The former EFCC boss was accused by the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), of gross misconduct and embezzlement.

Amid misconduct and allegation of fraud, a former acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu is set to retire from the police.

Magu was accused of gross misconduct and embezzlement by the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) forcing him to be removed as EFCC chairman.

He was acussed of failing to properly account for N431 million security votes/information fund released to the office of the Executive Chairman of EFCC between November 2015 and May 2020.

Magu was also accused of tampering with evidence and suppression of cases under investigation and prosecution, and omitting to arrest suspects in cases involving two high profile personalities.

The Commissioner of Police was further accused of suppressing high profile cases involving four former Nigerian governors.

Following these accusations, Magu was probed by a panel led by Justice Ayo Salami and subsequently arrested, detained, and suspended as the acting EFCC chairman.

However, Magu has repeatedly denied the allegations against him, saying that he never abused his office as the EFCC boss.

He was being considered for promotion by the Police Service Commission (PSC) despite the damning allegations against him, but was eventually dropped after public outrage.

Since his removal from office, little has been heard of the former EFCC chairman, who is billed to retire from the Nigeria Police Force on May 5, 2022, after 32 years in service.

Magu will also attain the 60 years age of retirement in accordance with Section 18(8) of the new Police Act.

According to TheCable, the former EFCC chairman is on a one-month terminal leave ahead of his eventual retirement on May 5.
