Omokri tweeted on Tuesday that he was surprised at the development which should not be more important than the security crisis in Nigeria.

Former Presidential aide and author, Reno Omokri has slammed those attacking Beninese-American singer, Angelique Kidjo for defeating Wizkid at the Grammys.

Kidjo beat Nigerian nominees Femi Kuti and Wizkid to win Best Global Music Album category at the 2022 Grammy Awards, held last Sunday in Los Angeles, US.

The 60-year-old won for her album Mother Nature. She, however, lost alongside Wizkid and Femi Kuti in Best Global Music Performance category which was won by Arooj Aftab.

Since her victory, several fans of Wizkid have sent her hate messages, forcing the Beninese to block her Instagram comments.

Reacting to this, Omokri tweeted on Tuesday that he was surprised at the development which should not be more important than the security crisis in Nigeria.

“When I saw how Nigerians were more concerned with the Grammy, and especially with bashing Angelique Kidjo (who is qualified to be a Nigerian citizen) than the widespread killings by terrorists in our country, I realised Buhari is not the only problem Nigeria has!” He said.

While Wizkid has not publicly congratulated Kidjo, who is quite popular in the Nigerian music space, Femi Kuti has done so.
