Kabungo was said to be CAF’s doping control officer for the second leg of the qualification match between the West African rivals for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

The death of the Confederation of Africa Football’s medical doctor, Joseph Kabungo, has been confirmed by the Football Association of Zambia.

 

The man died at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday.

The PUNCH had reported that Kabungo was confirmed dead after the World Cup play-off between Nigeria and Ghana.

The Nigeria Football Federation said, on Wednesday, that Kabungo died of cardiac arrest.

Kabungo was said to be CAF’s doping control officer for the second leg of the qualification match between the West African rivals for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

However, Here are five things to know about the late CAF/FIFA doctor:

1 – Kabungo was a member of the support staff of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations’ winning team.

2 – He was Zambia’s national team medical doctor from 2003 to 2016.

3 – He was a member of the Medical Committee under the Local Organising Committee of the 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

4 – Kabungo once served as the goalkeeper of Mufulira Wanderers, acclaimed to be Zambia’s most successful football club.

5 – He once served as Chongwe and Siavonga District Chief Health Medical Officer.
