As many as 24 shops were burnt down in Bauchi fire incident at Muda Lawal Market, Bauchi metropolis, Daily Post reports.
The Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Fire Service, Muhammad T Bature confirmed the incident to DAILY POST on Saturday.
He said that the incident happened on Friday afternoon.
He added that Fire Service personnel mobilized to the scene with five fire fighting trucks.
He said investigation was still on to ascertain the damages or loss incurred in the incident.
Meanwhile, traders alleged that black marketers operating at Muda Lawal Market, Bauchi, caused the inferno which razed down shops and part of Jummaat Mosque.
The fire incident lasted for over one and half hour, before men of the Fire Service quenched it.
One Aliyu Muhammed, a trader, who spoke to DAILY POST, said that the fire started in front of the black market dealers and escalated to nearby shops.
He said that the fire destroyed goods worth millions of naira.
“This is the second time within this year that fire incident occurred in the market,” he said.
