Daily Post reports that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted claims that the police shot at a corps member in Ibadan.
Reports had alleged that a corps member was shot by the police while on his way to the weekly community development service (CDS) on Thursday in the Oyo State capital.
It was also alleged that business activities were disrupted in Ibadan as students and traders took to the streets to protest the alleged shooting of a corps member in the Oluyole Local Government Area by a police officer.
But reacting, NYSC in a statement posted on its official Facebook page, denied the claims but confirmed that there was an encounter between some corps members and policemen.
It however noted that the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State has authorised an investigation into the matter to ensure that those who erred are reprimanded accordingly.
“To put the records straight, no corps member was shot in the head or chest and no life was lost during the encounter between some corps members and policemen on duty,” the statement read.
“As a matter of fact, the police authorities in Oyo State quickly intervened and the situation was immediately brought under control, and normalcy returned as expected.”
