El-Rufai also added that the northern region will produce the national chairman of the party.
The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has revealed the zone that will produce the party's presidential candidate.
According to him, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has zoned its 2023 presidential ticket to the south.
He added that the southern stakeholders within the party would, however, have to micro-manage the zoning and agree on which part of the south will produce the APC candidate.
El-Rufai also added that the northern region will produce the national chairman of the party.
The Kaduna State Governor made the disclosures on Wednesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
“Our expectation is that our presidential candidate will come from somewhere in the south,” he said.
“It is up to the southern caucus of the APC to now propose to us an acceptable candidate,” the Governor added.
On the chances of the APC retaining the presidency beyond 2023 when the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari will end, Governor El-Rufai said he believes the party has done enough to retain the confidence and vote of Nigerians not just at the national level but also across the states.
“I think Nigerians expect much more than we have done, but if Nigerians reflect deeply and compare with the other party, we are still a better choice.
“I believe that in 2023, the APC is going to win the presidential election as well as the majority of the governorship elections,” he said.
He confessed that he has no regret taking up the responsibility of becoming the Kaduna State Governor even though it was President Buhari that talked him into taking up the challenge.
“I’ve no regrets whatsoever. I think we’ve transformed the State in many ways, brought progress in many areas. I’ve no regrets. I’ve paid a personal price, but that’s life.
“I mean, whatever you do that raises the life of humanity, it feels like something that brings back positive feedback. I’m quite satisfied and I feel that we’ve done a decent job in Kaduna, so I’ve no regrets whatsoever.
“And I ask Nigerians to pray for all of us for Almighty God to choose a successor in Kaduna that would be even better than I tried to do,” El-Rufai said.
