Nigeria's first lady, Aisha Buhari on Wednesday paid a visit to the family of Hanifa Abubakar, the 5-year-old schoolgirl who was abducted, killed and buried in a shallow grave.
Mrs Buhari, who had earlier called for public execution of Hanifa’s killer, commiserated with the bereaved family in Kano.
Her visit comes 24 hours after that of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
After her meeting with the family, the president’s wife headed for the Government House where she met Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
Ganduje reaffirmed his commitment to assent to the death warrant of the suspected killer Abdulmalik Tanko if brought before him.
He said the state government was committed to ensuring that justice is done as he would not waste time in signing the death sentence of the suspect if passed by the court.
“There is nothing anyone or government can do to prevent what happened because the girl was kidnapped and killed by her own custodian.
“But Hanifa was the daughter of all Nigerians, we want to assure all that immediately justice is done, the governor will not waste a second to do the necessary thing,” Ganduje said.
He commended Mrs Buhari for taking the pain to pay the condolence visit to the state.
Mrs Buhari said she hoped that the punishment for Hanifa’s killer would satisfy all mothers in the country.
“I am here to commiserate with the government and people of Kano State as well as the Emir of Kano over the death of Sheikh Ahmad BUK and gruesome killing of the five-year-old girl, Hanifa,” she said.
“I am a mother and grandmother, already my grandchildren are in nursery and primary schools and in a situation where children are not safe in schools, then the society has become something else.”
