Ex-Football Coach Who Renamed National Team, Red Devils As Green Eagles, Pecos, Dies

Osugo managed the national team as Team Manager and also managed the Stationery Stores during its successful years. The deceased was an elite athlete in his younger days.

 

Peter Osugo, a football administrator, aka PECOS, who renamed the Nigeria national male football team from Red Devils to Green Eagles, is dead.

The male senior national team is called Super Eagles today.

Osugo managed the national team as Team Manager and also managed the Stationery Stores during its successful years. The deceased was an elite athlete in his younger days.

He also worked as a journalist and rose to become an editor.

He was from the Umu-Obi Osugo Royal family of Ase Community in the Ndokwa East Local Government Area of present-day Delta State.

A statement signed by Leo Osugo on behalf of the family announced on Thursday that Osugo (PECOS) died on January 24, 2022.

He was 92 years old.
