The terrorists gave the communities December 11 as the deadline to pay the levies or risked being attacked.

The Zamfara Government has said it is aware that bandits imposed N1 million levy on some communities in the state.

Recall that the bandits warned communities like Birnin Tsaba, Gabaken Mesa, Gabaken Dan-Maliki, Turawa, Askawa and Yanbuki to pay the levy by December 11 or risk being attacked.

According to a resident in the area, some of the communities have paid the levies in order to prevent further attacks on their communities.

He disclosed that the development has caused panic in the affected areas in Zurmi, Kaura Namoda and Birnin-Magaji Local Government Areas of the state.

“Gabaken Mesa has paid N1 million, Gabaken Dan-Maliki N1 million and Birnin Tsaba N1 million, just to mention but few.

“Yanbuki community was told to pay N19 million but after negotiation, it was reduced to N10 million,” the resident, Aliyu Abdul, told Channels TV.

Reacting to the development, Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, said the state government is aware of the levies imposed on the communities.

Dosara, therefore, said that the government is working with the security agencies to ensure that the communities are secured.

“The state government is working with the security agencies to make sure that these communities are secured,” he said.
