According to a report by SaharaReporters, the court hearing on a fundamental human rights lawsuit of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu at the Abia State High Court, sitting in Umuahia resumes today (Friday).

SaharaReporters learnt that there is presence of no fewer than 20 security operatives on the court premises, with a vehicle belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) also parked there.

Justice Benson Anya had adjourned the case on November 19 to today, December 10, 2021.

The judge also gave an order restraining security agencies from deploying heavy personnel to the court premises whenever Nnamdi Kanu is to appear before the court.

The court also prevented them from arresting anybody who comes to the court to witness Kanu’s proceedings.

Speaking to SaharaReporters on Friday, Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, said the lawyers were awaiting the arrival of the judge.

“We await the arrival of the Judge on the hearing of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s fundamental human rights. So, we are waiting for the hearing to commence. Other counsel are also expected.

“You know the last time the Judge ordered restraining the security operatives from barricading the court premises. I will say there is partial obedience. There is the presence of a few of them. I can count them. They are not more than 20.

“They are not barricading the court premises like they used to do, as if there is a war. Just one Hilux of the Civil Defence I can see here. They obeyed the order, I will say but not to the letter,” Ejimakor said.

The lawsuit to be heard today had been filed on 7th September by Ejimakor.

It is challenging the pro-Biafra separatist agitator's abduction in Kenya, his extraordinary rendition to Nigeria and also stop his prosecution.
