Police And Residents Team Up To Prevent PDP Chieftain’s Kidnap, Rescue Victims In Nasarawa

Daily Post reports that police officers and some civilians on Saturday scuttled the abduction of a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Nasarawa, Umar Nasiru.

In a statement on Sunday, Public Relations Officer, ASP Rahman Nansel said the incident occurred at about 8:10pm.

The spokesman noted that a distress call was received that six gunmen were in an active operation.

They invaded Nasiru’s residence at the Bukan Kwato area of Lafia, the state capital.

Commissioner of Police, Adesina Soyemi mobilised patrol teams around the axis to the scene.

Nansel said the officers and courageous members of the community jointly foiled the attack.

The assailants hit Nasiru with a stick on his forehead and shot a neighbour on the right leg.

They then escaped into nearby bushes, while the victims were rushed to a hospital. All are in a stable condition, reports say.

“Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects. An investigation is ongoing”, the statement added.
