It was pure confusion that took over the Agulese Ugwueme Street, Akwuke, in the Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State, on Wednesday when a mother of four, Nwunye Ofo, reportedly bit off a neighbour’s ear during a fight, according to The PUNCH.
It was gathered that trouble started when the victim, identified as Ogechi, a native of Ezza in Ebonyi State, queried Ofo for putting nylon in her doorway.
It was learnt that the question angered Ofo and led to a hot exchange of words between the tenants, which degenerated into a fight.
The suspect, who hails from Ohafia, Abia State, was said to have bitten off Ogechi’s earlobe.
The victim, a mother of two, allegedly retaliated by biting her assailant in the hand.
Neighbours, who spoke on the incident, said Ofo had speech impairment and was usually angry at the slightest provocation.
It was gathered that before now, the two neighbours had had quarrels over disagreements between their children.
The disagreements, neighbours said, usually bordered on spreading of cloths in the yard and fetching of water from the compound well.
A tenant in the house, who identified herself as Mama Uka, said both tenants were quarrelsome.
“They have been living like cat and dog in the compound. That was not the first time they would quarrel, but it never led to a fight until yesterday,” she said.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the matter was reported to the police, who advised the women to settle the matter and report back.
The police also reportedly urged the suspect’s husband to take care of the victim’s medical bills.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said he had not been briefed about the incident.
