The suspension of operations by the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC over attacks by bandits has gotten a reaction from a former lawmaker, Shehu Sani.

NRC suspended operations after bandits detonated explosives on the tracks serving the Abuja-Kaduna line.

We had reported that the attack, which took place between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, left passengers traumatised, with reports that the attackers also fired live rounds into driver compartments.

Following the attack, NRC, in a statement via its website on Thursday afternoon, said operations have been suspended till further notice.

Reacting to the development, Sani, in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Friday morning, described NRC’s suspension of the railway services as the safest thing to do.

He also urged the NRC to install sensors on the railway in order to detect any explosive devices.

Sani tweeted, “The suspension of the railway services by the NRC is the safest thing to do for now.

“The next is to install the sensors to detect any explosive planted along the rail tracks.

“Flying to Kaduna is the next option while hoping that the road from the airport to the city will be secured.”

Meanwhile, Sani had disclosed that he narrowly escaped death when the train he boarded ran into a portion damaged by explosives used by terrorists in attacking a Kaduna-Abuja train on Wednesday.
