Magistrate A. A. Ayeni ordered that Joseph be remanded in Ile-Ife Nigeria Correctional Centre, pending sentencing.

A 30-year-old labourer, James Joseph, has been remanded in a correctional centre by an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Thursday for stealing maize from a farm.

The Police had charged Joseph with theft.

Magistrate A. A. Ayeni ordered that Joseph be remanded in Ile-Ife Nigeria Correctional Centre, pending sentencing.

Ayeni adjourned the case until September 23 for sentencing.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Emmanuel Abdullahi, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 3, 2021 at Ogudu Village via Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that the defendant stole maize worth N63,000, property of Olarewaju Johnson.

He said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace when he trespassed into Johnson’s farm.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 249 (d) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
