Former Senator, Shehu Sani has lashed out at the federal government over insecurity in the north.
According to him, the Federal Government of Nigeria and the security agencies in the country have failed to protect Katsina and its people.
Sani said this while reacting to Katsina Governor Aminu Bello Masari’s call on citizens to acquire weapons and defend themselves against bandits.
Recall that Masari had disclosed this in a press statement by the Director-General, Media, Labaran Malumfashi, on Tuesday.
According to Governor Masari, it is morally wrong for people to submit meekly to the bandits without any attempt to defend themselves, noting that security was everybody’s business.
He also said that it was the people’s meek submission that emboldened the bandits to continue with their heinous activities with murderous frequency, adding that people must divorce their minds from the mistaken notion that security is the government’s sole responsibility.
Reacting, Sani, in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Wednesday morning, said, “Katsina Governor’s call on citizens to pick up arms against the bandits is an open admission and declaration that the FG and the security agencies have failed to protect his state and people.
“Already there are some villages in the North West impossible for the bandits to raid.”
