A Nigerian man identified as Samuel Echendu, who was contending for the traditional stool of Choba community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State with his younger brother and current king, Eze Raymond Echendu, is dead.

Echendu’s death comes as a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt fixed 20 August for the judgment in a suit he instituted against his younger brother over the rightful person to occupy the traditional stool of Choba community.

The matter, which was initially adjourned for judgment yesterday, Wednesday, could not go on as planned.

Echendu, who died yesterday, had upon installation of his immediate younger brother Eze Raymond as the Paramount ruler of Choba approached the court to nullify the installation and install him as the rightful occupant of the traditional stool in line with Ikwerre culture and tradition.

A family source, who confirmed the death, said Samuel Echendu was not sick and had prepared to go to court on Wednesday for the judgment when he collapsed and was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
