Some traditional rulers have stormed the Cour De’appal De Cotonou of Benin Republic in solidarity with Yoruba agitator, Sunday Igboho.

The Yoruba-speaking supporters in the Benin Republic and from Nigeria stormed the court on Monday to show support for the embattled freedom fighter.

Igboho was arrested in the neighbouring West African nation last week.

A Yoruba rights group, Isokan Omo Odua, has also mobilised supporters for the embattled Yoruba activist as a sign of solidarity, the Nation reports.

Some others were inside the court patiently sitting for the hearing to commence.

As of the time of filing this report, Igboho had yet to arrive at the court.

But Igboho’s wife, Ropo, is already present at the court, according to the BBC.

Also, there was no heavy security presence at the entrance of the court.

The hearing is expected to begin around 10:00 am.

According to one of Igboho’s lawyers, Ibrahim Salami who granted an interview to BBC Yoruba, the Nigerian government asked the Beninise government to arrest the activist because he was allegedly trafficking illegal arms, among other allegations levelled against him.
