Sixty-one suspected criminals have been arrested by operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command for various offences in the state.
Parading the suspects at the Command Headquarters on Friday in Lafia, the Commissioner of Police, Bola Longe, said that the suspects had been terrorising residents of the state until the police arrested them.
He explained that the suspects arrested were involved in assassination, armed robbery, vandalism, among other crimes.
He said, “We raised a formidable team of detectives and operational personnel as a proactive step to prevent them from actualising their aim and in the process, we got them arrested.”
He also paraded some suspected vandals who had been in the business of buying and selling railway tracks in the state.
He commended the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the Police Command led by CSP Anietie Eyoh for being able to arrest the criminal elements who had been vandalising the railway items and said that plans are being made to charge the suspects to court.
“While working on credible intelligence, the Anti-kidnapping unit of the command was able to intercept one Citroen J5 Bus, with recently vandalised railway tracks at Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area. On sighting the police, the occupants of the vehicle abandoned it and escaped to an unknown destination. So, we took the vehicle to the State CID and investigation is still ongoing,” he said.
He disclosed that apart from the suspects arrested, the Command also recovered some items which include, seven firearms, seven rounds of live ammunition, four vehicles, three laptops, one motorcycle, 17 handsets, among others.
