The governor bragged that he had succeeded in making Ogun a one-party State, a development, he said, has never happened before.
Governor Dapo Abiodun
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has stated that there is no other political party in the State aside from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abiodun bragged that he had succeeded in making Ogun a one-party State; a development, he said, has never happened before.
The Governor said this on Wednesday when he led the APC campaign train to Ifo Local Government Area ahead of the July 24 local government elections.
Addressing APC supporters, the excited Gov Abiodun explained that he could not feel the presence of any other political party in the state, even as the local government elections draw closer.
He said his tour to Imeko-Afon, Yewa North, Ogun Waterside, Ijebu East and Ado-Odo/Ota local governments had made him realise the non-existence of any other political parties in the State.
The governor said in the local governments visited so far, there was not a single poster of any other political party.
“Our party is now bigger. ADC has joined us, PDP has joined us. In fact, there is no other political party in Ogun State. We have never seen something like this before in Ogun, that we will go for a campaign and there won’t be any other poster of other political parties. Do you see any other posters?
“They can’t paste posters because there is no other party in this state.
“We went to Imeko, no other party; Yewa North, no other party; Waterside, Ijebu East, Ota, no other party. Ordinarily, We should just say ‘we have won already, no need for election’. But we don’t do that. We will have the election,” Abiodun said.
The Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Babatunde Osibodu, recently said on a radio programme that he had been to places in Ogun and he observed that only the APC was preparing for the council polls.
This is as the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused OGSIEC of being used by Abiodun and the APC to frustrate it out of the poll.
The PDP said Osibodu deliberately meddled in the affairs of the party by giving out forms belonging to the party to one Leke Shittu of the late Buruji Kashamu faction.
This, the main opposition party said, was to that give APC candidates an easy ride to the offices being contested for.
As of Friday, the PDP is yet to flag off its campaign across the state.
