The presiding judge, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye ruled that the prosecution proved the ingredients of armed robbery against the first convict without any reasonable doubt.

22-year-old Man Sentenced To Death By Hanging Over Armed Robbery In Ekiti

A 22-year-old convicted armed robber, Kehinde Olajide, has been sentenced to death by an Ekiti State High Court.

The presiding judge, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye ruled that the prosecution proved the ingredients of armed robbery against the first convict without any reasonable doubt.

The court, however, discharged and acquitted other accused persons Kareem Azeez, 24, Bamisile Lateef, 28 and Adebayo Basiru, 25.

“He is hereby sentenced to death by hanging until he be dead in count charge 3, may God almighty have mercy upon his soul."

Olajide is also sentenced to 10-years imprisonment on count 9, with an option of N20, 000 fine.

Justice Ogunmoye added that there was no proof between the 2nd, 3rd and 4th accused persons in the commission of the offence they were charged for.

The accused persons were charged with nine counts bothering on conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms and armed robbery.

The offences is contrary to section 6(b), 3(1) and 1(b)(a) of robbery and firearms (Special provision) Act, Cap.R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The offences were committed between Dec. 29 to Jan. 10, 2019, at Ado Ekiti when the accused person armed with dangerous weapons robbed Dayo Folorunsho, Saka Yusuf, Adeoye Oluwatosin, Adeola Oluwatobi, Olayemi Aremu, Hambali Ojo and Ayodele Oluwafemi of their belongings such as Mobile phones, Lexus E5 350 car, recharge cards, Bajaj motorcycle, Jewelleries, wrist watches, ZDX Acura car etc and cash total sum of N205,500.

To prove his case, the prosecutor H. A Adeyemi had called 5 witnesses while the exhibit tendered include statements of the accused, locally made pistols, two live cartridges, a black mask among others.

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th convict called 5 witnesses for their defence, the 1st accused person called no witness but spoke through his counsel, Yinka Opaleke.
