Youths have been urged to take more proactive steps in trying to change the country instead of insulting leaders on social media.

Nigerian youths have been told to stop insulting leaders on social media.

Abel Peter Diah, former speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly said insulting people on social media cannot change anything.

Instead, he said they should take their future in their hands and embark on practical steps to claim the leadership of the country.

Diah, who made the call today in Jalingo, the state capital , challenged the youths to brace up for leadership positions and desist from dragging the names of leaders into the mud.

Lamenting the poor state of Taraba, competent individuals, who according to him would be able to tread extra legitimate miles to herald the much desired growth to the state, should be allowed to ascend the positions of authority come next political dispensation.

He stressed the development of the state is beyond the interest of an individual, adding that age should not be a criterion.

Diah, who is the incumbent member representing Mbamnga constituency in the state House of Assembly, also reiterated his determination to work round the clock alongside colleagues of like minds in ensuring that competent persons ascend the positions of authority in 2023.

“Taraba State” as stated by him “is beyond an individual. It’s not about me, it’s about Taraba State. I want to see a greater Taraba other than what we have now.”

The former speaker who alongside some of his colleagues have been at loggerheads with the state governor, also affirmed that “What we are seeing today is not what we know the state to be.”

Adding that “leadership is not by age, it’s by competence, we can not in 2023 allow someone who doesn’t have the competence and doesn’t know Taraba to rule the state.”

Sad that some youths have made themselves available as tools of destruction in the hands of some overzealous politicians, he said: “those who hired you and give you peanuts to be insulting elders on social media have their children schooling in the best universities in the world.”

He added that “most of their children are not even on WhatsApp and Facebook. So, you must learn from this and move on. You must change the narrative and stop being used as political thugs and praise singers.”
