Danny Ings Future at Southampton in Doubt as Interest Increases

 Danny Ings' future at Southampton is in doubt as transfer interest in the 28-year-old forward increases. Ings has played for Southampton since being loaned to the club back in 2018 and then subsequently signing for them the following year. With his contract coming to an end and the summer transfer window approaching, several clubs have reportedly shown interest in him. 

 

Danny Ings began his football career at Southampton's youth team before progressing through AFC Bournemouth's youth system. He joined Burnley in 2011 and is credited with helping the side progress to premier league football. He then moved onto Liverpool, where he remained for two seasons – both of which were plagued by injury. He moved to Southampton on loan in 2018 and was later bought by the club, where he remains to this day. 

 

Ings has also played for the England national side, making his debut for the team in October of 2015. Although he has been out of the national squad in recent times due to injury, there is potential he will be called up for the Euros this summer. 

 

 

Manchester City is one of the clubs reportedly interested in Danny Ings. City is on the lookout for a replacement for Sergio Aguero, who will be leaving the club this summer. The club was reportedly interested in Erling Haaland. With a value of £100 million and interest from top clubs in the UK and abroad, Ings is the more viable choice. 

 

The Southampton forward has also been linked with Spurs. However, after Ings showed little indication that he wanted to move to them, it has been suggested that the London Club are likely to drop their interest in him. 

 

 

Danny Ings signed his £20 million contract with Southampton in July 2019. He is still valued at approximately the same amount today, with Transfermarkt estimating his current worth to be £19.8 million. 

 

 

With just over a year left on his contract, Southampton must lock him into a long-term contract or sell him this summer. Otherwise, they could lose him for free next year. The next few months will, therefore, be crucial in deciding Ings' future. 

 

 

Over 22 matches, Ings has scored eight top-flight goals this season. He has scored match-winning goals against Arsenal, Liverpool, Brighton, Aston Villa and Burnley. 

 

 

Whether Ings would be a first choice regular at Manchester City is questionable. While he could do well at the club, rejecting a move away from Southampton might be better for his career. Ings time at Liverpool is an excellent example of this. Although he suffered several injuries while playing for Liverpool, he was far from a guaranteed starter even when fully fit. 

 

Ings could face similar issues at Manchester City and would be pitched against younger players with similar stats. Staying at Southampton would likely give him more time on the pitch and more goal-scoring opportunities.
