Woman Remanded In Prison For Stealing Days After Giving Birth In Osun

A 21-year-old  new mum identified as Janet Ismail, was on Monday remanded in Ilesha Correctional Center for breaking into a shop to steal clothes days after giving birth in Osogbo, Osun state.

The Police Prosecutor Kayode Adeoye told the Osun State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo that, “on March 2nd, 2021 at Orita-Elelede, Janet broke into a shop of one Olalere Iyabo Modinat and stole different types of clothes worth N300,000.

Adeoye added that the clothes the nursing mother stole were in the court.

The defendant counsel, Najite Okobe applied for bail of the nursing mother on the most liberal terms.

Janet, who was present in court with her newborn pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of burglary and stealing.

The magistrate, Mrs Adijat Oloyade, ordered that the defendant be remanded in Correctional Center, and adjourned the matter to April 12, 2021, for hearing.
