The ban placed on the importation of Nigerian beans by the European Union over failure to implement its food safety action plan has been extended.

The EU food safety authority had in 2015 banned Nigerian beans because it contained between 0.3mg per kilogram and 4.6mg per kg of Dichlorvos, a pesticide when the maximum acceptable residue limit was 0.01 mg per kg.

The commission extended the importation of dry beans from Nigeria until June 2019 owing to the continuous presence of the pesticide. It has again extended the ban.
