A Nigerian assistant professor, Dr Ann Amuta has talked about the importance of friendship in marriage.

The woman took to Twitter to use her marriage as an example of why couples should make friendship - not sex, goosebumps, or butterflies - the foundation of a marriage.

The Nigerian, who works as an assistant professor in the School of Health Promotion and Kinesiology at Texas Woman's University, explained that the pandemic has forced her and her husband to work from home for months and they spend all hours of the day with each other but their friendship has sustained them.

She wrote: "Thanks to the pandemic, my husband and I both work fully from home and are together 24/7; yet, we still somehow like each other. We can gist and laugh for hours and are never tired of each other’s company. This is not a result of love but a deep friendship.

"Before you marry anyone, make sure there’s a friendship there - not just goosebumps, butterflies and sex. Friendship is the foundation of an enjoyable marriage."
