The Vice-Chancellor of the University announced the deferment of the award during the 14th convocation ceremonies of the University.

PREMIUM TIMES reports that the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, on Thursday, deferred the award of an honourary doctorate degree earlier approved for the dethroned Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Charles Esimone, announced the deferment of the award during the 14th convocation ceremonies of the University.
Esimone said the deferment was due to prevailing circumstances.
The VC said the award would be conferred on Sanusi in future convocation ceremonies of the University.
The VC said, “The award will be conferred on the former Emir in our future convocation ceremonies.
“The Senate of the University duly approved the award to former Emir Muhammadu Sanusi.”
Sanusi was to be honoured with an honorary doctorate degree in risk management.
Sanusi was dethroned, on Monday, by Governor of Kano, Umar Ganduje, and banished to Nasarawa.
Two other Nigerians honoured at the occasion were Chief Innocent Chukwuma, who is the Chairman, Innocent Motors, Nnewi, and Chief Daniel Chukwudolue of the Dozie Oil.
