A man has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for being in possession of human parts.
A High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, has convicted Azeez Yakubu to 15 years imprisonment for criminal conspiracy, trafficking and possession of human parts.
Also sentenced for the same crime were six others.
The crime was reportedly committed in March 2017 in Ilorin.
The suspects were found guilty of the offences including criminal conspiracy, trafficking and possession of 11 human skulls, 11 lower jawbones, a bunch of hair and 29 pieces of bones taken from various burial grounds in Ilorin.
Delivering the judgement, the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Durosinlorun Kawu, described activities of the suspects as despicable and shameful and sentenced the first suspect, Azeez Yakubu, to 15 years imprisonment with N100,000 fine each on the three counts.
The other suspects including a middle-aged woman, Aishat Yinusa, Lukman Saka, AbdulGaniyu Bamidele, Ahmed Yahaya, Saliu Ayinde and Abdurasak Babamale, who were also indicted to have participated in the crime, were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with N100,000 fine on two of the charges.
Kawu added that the prison terms would include the period already spent in custody, noting that they were free to appeal the judgement.
