A woman has dragged her ex-husband to court for refusing to pay for her antenatal while pregnant for his child.
A woman, Fatima Yakubu, on Thursday prayed a Sharia Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, to order her former husband, Abubakar Haruna, to refund the N60,000 she spent on antenatal.
The plaintiff told the court that her ex-husband, whom she legally divorced on Jan. 8, has not shown any care over her well-being even though she was pregnant.
“Haruna drives a flashy car and can afford to take care of me because he is responsible for my pregnancy,” she said.
Yakubu alleged that her former husband earns more than N150,000 monthly.
She also prayed the court to order Haruna to pay her N20,000 monthly until she delivers.
The plaintiff equally prayed the court to order the defendant to pay her N5,000 monthly.
The defendant, Abubakar Haruna, represented by his counsel, M.A. Bammali, told the court that his client was aware that Yakubu was pregnant.
He said that his client can pay N5,000 as monthly upkeep for Yakubu.
The Judge, Murtala Nasir, after listening to both parties, ordered the defendant to register his former wife in a hospital for proper antenatal and adjourned the case till Jan. 23, for the continuation of hearing.
