The suspects
A suspected kidnapper in Gombe State, Ibrahim Ahmadu, has expressed disappointment that a victim called the police instead of bringing the N1m ransom he promised his abductors.
Ahmadu, who is one of two suspects arrested out of a five-member gang, was paraded by the police in Gombe on Thursday.
He said the victim, Gidado Jungudo, was released from captivity with the understanding that he would go and source for the ransom but instead, he turned to the police for help.
Ahmadu said, “Unfortunately, he had to call the Divisional Police Officer, who in turn mobilised his men and hunters to chase after us, where they discovered us in our hideout.”
Parading the suspects, the spokesperson of the Gombe State Police Command, SP Mary Malum, said, “Policemen from the Dukku Division of the state arrested Audu Umar, 28, and Ibrahim Ahmadu, 25, from the Lapiya village in Dukku, while three others are at large in a case of criminal conspiracy, trespass, intimidation, armed robbery and kidnapping.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects include two AK-47 rifles, two locally-made revolver pistols, two machetes, sticks, clothes, knives and ropes. The suspects confessed to the crime and will be charged.”
