Kidnappers' den

Police in Akwa Ibom State led by the Inspector-General of Police’ Special Tactical Squad on Wednesday raided a kidnappers’ den in Ikot-Ubo Community in the Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and arrested four suspects.

A woman identified as Mrs Glory Samuel was also rescued during the raid.

While briefing newsmen on Friday after the raid, the Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko MacDon, said one of the kidnappers escaped.

He said, “We went to Nsit-Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State to demolish a building because it is a kidnappers’ den.

“During the raid, four suspected kidnappers were arrested on Wednesday October 30, 2019, in a gun battle with the police.  One of them escaped, but one woman, Glory Samuel, was rescued unhurt and she was the only victim there as of the time of rescue.

“She was kidnapped on October 17 and kept in a deplorable condition. The police team is led by IGP Special Tactical Squad and they were able to work in conjunction with Area Command, Eket.”

MacDon, who said the rescued Samuel had been taken to the hospital for treatment, warned kidnappers to stay away from crime.

“Kidnapping does not pay. Crime does not pay in any way. This is meant to show that whosoever is involved in things like this, the long arm of the law will catch up with them,”
he added.

It was gathered that Glory’s husband, Ekerenam, was made to pay a ransom of N3m but the kidnappers demanded additional N17m before the victim would be released.
