BREAKING: Rivers Govt Acquires Shell's 45 Percent Interest In OML 11

Rivers government has acquired Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) 45% stake in the Oil Mining Lease 11 in Eleme and other parts of Ogoni land in the state.

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Monday said that the state government had acquired the 45 per cent interest of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria in Oil Mining Lease 11 located in Ejama Ebubu community, Eleme Local Government Area and other communities in Ogoni.

Wike, who disclosed this during a state broadcast at the Government House in Port Harcourt, added that the decision was in the best interest of the state.
 
He said:“I am delighted to inform you that the Rivers State Government has fully acquired Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) 45% interest in OML 11 situated in Ejama Ebubuo community in Eleme Local Government Area and the adjoining Ogoni and other communities of Rivers state.”

The governor stated that the background for the acquisition of OML 11 was based on court judgements, which had already been recorded in the United Kingdom and Nigeria for enforcement.
