A young man has been reportedly killed by some unknown gunmen at the residence of the first Benue speaker.

According to The Nation, some unknown gunmen have shot and killed a 20 year-old man, Aondowase Tagher, at the Northbank residence of the first Speaker of Benue state House of Assembly, Late Him Ayua Num in Makurdi, Benue state capital on Sunday night.
The gunmen who were said to be numbering over 30, stormed the Federal Low cost housing unit, Northbank residence at about 10:30pm.
Narrating the unfortunate incident, the son of the late Speaker, Mr. Cosmos Num, told The Nation that he was sleeping in his house at a different location within the Federal Housing Low cost when he was called on the phone that gunmen have invaded his Father’s house .
According to Num, who was visibly shaken by the incident which his mother Mrs .Patricia Àyua Num, narrowly escaped death by whiskers, described it as an attempt to killed her mother .
Num said that before he arrived the residence, he called the Divisional Police Officer ( DPO) of C .Division Police station in Nortbank, who told him that he was already in possession of the body of his brother who was killed while attempting to escape from the gunmen who invaded their residence.
”I also called and texted the Benue state commissioner of police but got no reply,” he said.
According to him, the gunmen smashed windows and doors, including vehicles .
“They shot direct at the window of the bed room where my mother Mrs .Patricia Num slept. She was lucky to escaped the bullets by whiskers.”
Num called on security agencies to find out the killers of his cousin and bring them to book to serve as deterrent.
Police spokesperson, DSP Kate Sewuese Anene confirmed the incident and said investigation has commenced.
